The Launch

Welcome! I’m glad you’re here - sharing this moment in time with me. It seems this website has been a long time coming as a “someday” project and a wish upon a star. It is a culmination of images from my life so far that have only been shared via social media, real-time as they happened or long-since stored away in a photo box, on a high shelf at the back of a closet. It is a group project of sorts as I enlisted the help of amazing friends to create the logo and copy content; assist with artistic direction and image selection; and produce Five-Four Photography merch. It is a labor of love. It is my heart on full display. Many thanks to my tribe of friends and family for your words of encouragement and unwavering support!

I barely remember a time before owning a camera, having received a Kodak Disc 3000 as a gift from my dad in the early 1980’s. I carried it everywhere, photographing my younger siblings and neighborhood friends. My passion for capturing candid moments has grown over the years and my camera equipment has seen a few upgrades. I’m a Canon girl at heart, having worked my way through various EOS models as I photographed my own children, pets and extended family over the years. We’re an active bunch that look for any excuse to gather over a grilled burger and glass of iced tea, especially in the warmer months when the cornfields are tall and the fireflies twinkle at night. Those unscripted, everyday moments are my favorite to capture. And somewhere along the way, my love of live music bled into photographing shows from my one true happy place: the front row of a concert where I’m hoping to catch a bass line that I feel in my soul and a lyric or two to sing-along. Life was forever changed for me, once I attended my first music festival and felt the freedom of bouncing stage to stage, gliding in and out of the crowd for front row shots of the musicians and moving back out for crowd shots. Moving around to photograph a concert or event of any sort, is a bit of a dance for me. One I prefer to do barefoot, if given the chance.

After several big life changes in 2019, I made a promise to myself to travel and seek out more adventures; to truly be present, live in the moment, visit places I’ve never been, speak with more strangers and look beyond my fears and self-limiting beliefs. I was off to a good start as I kicked off January 2020 with a trip to Florida with some of my favorite girlfriends and began filling my calendar with future concert dates and vacation destinations. And in March 2020, I left on a week-long adventure with Living Lands & Waters, an environmental non-profit that removes garbage and litter from our rivers and waterways and plants trees. I joined the LLW crew in Memphis, TN for Alternative Spring Break, lived on their barge for a week and assisted with river clean-ups via jon boats. My last day on the barge was Friday, March 13, 2020 - the day the world went sideways. Travel was suspended. Concerts were canceled. Life, seemingly, was put on hold. But I continued to dream “what if…” and waited for “someday…” while socially distancing and soaking up every drop of sunshine I could find. And now someday is here. There’s still so much to do and see and photograph and share with you! No time like the present, as “they” say… I hope to write more about my adventures as they happen. I always meet the most interesting people through music and art. Sometimes they let me take their photographs.

Peace, Love & Photography,

Kim
